What actually happens when we left to run on an empty stomach?
What happens is that by not having sufficient carbon hydrates in the body for energy, your body begin to use stored fat to use them as fuel. Remember that our body always resort to get energy from carbohydrates consumed during the day, should it have no reservations, use its alternative source, lipids or fats.
However, it is important to remember that if you usually run on an empty stomach have to do it in moderation because it is not the same as obtaining energy from carbohydrates to fat (the fat contribute less energy). This fasting running has its advantages, but like almost everything in life has its drawbacks:
Advantages
- The main advantage is that increased fat burning is done, being our main source of energy.
- Some people perform much better with some carbohydrates and sugar in the body, for example having previously eaten a banana.
- It helps us define our muscles and our body is forced to use these fat reserves that have more.
- Mild feeling of comfort and lightness, avoiding the heaviness of having food in the stomach.
- There is the possibility of having a low sugar producing some dizziness and in some cases even fainting.
- This is due to having low blood glucose previously not eat any food.
- Not to perform intense workouts like that if we had previously eaten
- We can get the opposite effect, as we can feel so hungry after running to resort to little food sanitary facilities due to anxiety Increased risk of dehydration
